When selecting a mediator, parties instinctively want a mediator who will understand and relate to their side of the dispute.  What is less obvious, but equally true, is that you also want a mediator who can relate to and communicate well with the opposing side.  As a litigator for over 29 years, I have been on both sides of the table and have represented both plaintiffs and defendants, individuals and corporations, and insurance companies and policyholders.  In addition, I have represented both employers and employees on employment law matters; owners, municipalities, contractors, and subcontractors in construction disputes; and I’ve represented design professionals as well as owners and contractors making design professional claims.  In addition, I’ve represented plaintiffs in personal injury matters and have represented defendants facing negligence claims.  Finally, I have had the privilege of representing both insurance companies and policyholders/insureds in complex insurance coverage disputes. This varied professional experience allows me to relate to both plaintiffs and defendants equally well, which is essential for productive communication.
