MICHAEL A. Burger

MEMBER

As a litigator, I have assisted clients with employment matters, and business matters generally (commercial, corporate, and contract disputes), assisted shareholders, partners, LLC members, executors, administrators, trustees, other fiduciaries and agents in a wide range of legal contexts including will and trust contests, shareholder disputes, corporate and other entity dissolution proceedings, power of attorney abuse, alleged breach of fiduciary duty and funeral or burial rights.  A veteran trust and estates litigator with significant experience, I am routinely called upon to assist clients in the often complex area of trust and estate litigation.  I am a trained neutral mediator and arbitrator and I believe that my unique background and multidisciplinary skill set allow me to relate to all parties, using practical human experience and good-humored empathy to help foster agreements that adhere to the needs of both sides.  I began my legal career at the New York City bar, representing clients before trial and appellate courts.  In 1999, I moved to Rochester, New York (to follow and marry the love of my life, Anne). I have been a litigator for over 20 years and I often use mediation as a tool to achieve my client's goals in my law practice.  I was first attracted to mediation in law school where I studied under the law professor who successfully mediated the heated and violent dispute between the Jewish and African American communities in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, during the early 1990s.  I am currently a member of the Estate Planning Council, the Dispute Resolution Sections of both the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association and the Fee Arbitration and Professional Performance Committees of the Monroe County Bar Association, and a former member of the Monroe County Bar Association's Ethics Committee.
